Rape on Campus (Al Jazeera Documentary)

Independent news organisation Al Jazeera reports on widespread disclosures of rape and sexual assault on Australian university campuses in the documentary Rape on Campus. As the manager of an outreach program to educate international students about sexual health, Alison was interviewed for the documentary.

After suffering sexual assault, international students will rarely go to the police.

“International students just won’t report sexual assault,” says Alison. Fear of the authorities, language barriers and confusion about Australia’s legal and medical services contribute to their continued silence.

“[The] number one [reason] is definitely fear of the ramifications it could have on their visa,” said Alison.
